Hey everyone! We are excited to see everyone’s amazing submissions. We wanted to address some frequently asked questions participants had about the hackathon as well as any updates. 

Before anything, make sure you read through our Devpost rules, check out for our next talks and workshops on Schedule, and join our Discord channel for support from mentors, other participants, instant updates, and team building.

I missed the opening ceremony. How can I access it?

Will there be recordings of the talks, workshops, etc.? 

Yes! They will be posted on our YouTube channel. 

 

What should I submit?

Our judges will primarily be looking at your submitted Devpost project page and the uploaded 2 minute video demo of your project.

 

When are the projects due? 

Submit by August 23, 2020 at 1 pm ET

 

How do I submit to Devpost?

Can you elaborate on the format for the submission?

For sure. You can also find this information in our Hacker’s Guide and Devpost. 

For the hackathon submission, each team will be required to submit a (2 min max) video demo/pitch of their MVP along with a description of their project through Devpost. Here's an example of a simple Devpost hackathon project submission:

We also recommend linking your code through Github, and Devpost also gives you the option to provide a link to a demo if you're building a web application.

 

I am submitting for the continuation prize. How do I go about that? 

Every participant of Hack for the People must create, execute, and deploy a project on the day of the hackathon unless you are competing for the continuation prize. Please fill out the following form before Saturday August 22nd, 11:59PM EST Continuation Project Form 

 

How do we formally add teammates and collaborate with them on the website?

You can make a group chat on discord and communicate however your teammates feel most comfortable! Use this article to learn how to create and submit a project on Devpost:

You'll get the option to add your teammates after you create your project page.

 

Is it possible to have a group or team of more than four members? 

Unfortunately, no. Each team can have 4 people max. Every member must have registered on both our Devpost and Typeform to be eligible for prizes. 

 

What prizes can I win this weekend?

You can find all of the tracks and prizes we are running on our Devpost page: https://hackforthepeople.devpost.com/. We have $15,060 in prizes!

Is there a limit to how many prize tracks we can enter, and limit to how many prizes we can receive?

No, there's no limit. Be sure to make clear in your pitch or Devpost description the connection to some of the tracks if it's unclear

What is your Code of Conduct?

How do I report a Code of Conduct violation?

If you feel uncomfortable or think there may be a potential violation of the code of conduct, please report it immediately by messaging an organizer on Discord or emailing team@hackforthepeople.com.

 

Where is the event schedule?

How do I check in?

  1. Register at https://hackforthepeople.devpost.com/ 
  2. Fill out the Typeform at https://bit.ly/h4tp_app to claim your swag.
  3. Come back here to the Discord channel and put a check mark emoji in #check-in  to get access to the hackathon channels. 

 

How do I get Google Cloud credits?

Note that these are not available in all regions and are not available to anyone below 18 years of age, including those in high school.
